The Session

The session of Churchville Presbyterian Church consists of our pastor (the Teaching Elder) and twelve active elders. These elders are nominated by the congregation, selected by the nominating committee and approved by the Session and presented to the congregation. The session is responsible for the mission and governance of the church. It oversees and approves all public worship in the life of the church, with the exception of those responsibilities delegated to the pastor alone. It delegates and supervises the work of the Board of Deacons and all other organizations and task forces within the congregation.

In October 2004, the congregation voted to merge the Session and Trustees into a single board of Trustee-Elders whose responsibilities include the upkeep of the church"s land and buildings and the investment of funds given or bequeathed to the church.

To provide the necessary counsel, guidance and direction, the Session oversees several committees. Through committee deliberation and feedback to the Session the church formulates and conducts its activities so as to achieve its mission to the world - to proclaim, teach, and live the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Session meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
